Members of the Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria (JUSUN)‎, in Ondo State, have called off their four months old strike.

A statement issued on Thursday evening, by its Chairman, Femi Ogunode, obtained by SaharaReporters in Akure, stated that the union decided to suspend its strike after a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was reached with the State government.

Ogunode said ‎the MoU was reached “at a final meeting between the government representatives” in Akure, which had in attendance, the State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Eyitayo Jegede.

Although, the statement didn't give further conditions on the MOU reached between the union and the State government neither does it stipulated pending agitation.

He directed through the statement that all judiciary workers would now return to their respective posts and resume their duties ‎ beginning from next week on Monday.

It would be recalled that the union has been on strike since the 5th of January 2015, agitating for the implementation of financial autonomy for its members from the government.

As a result of the strike, law courts in the State had been under lock and key, thereby paralyzing the judiciary’s activities while innocent citizens were unjustly arrested by Police‎ and thrown into a jail cell.

An investigation carried out by SaharaReporters in the State revealed a great number of injustices have been committed as a result of the lawlessness orchestrated by security officers.

A SaharaReporters correspondent reports that with the decision of the union, the State High Court and Magistrate Courts would now resume work after four months of shutdown on Monday.
