According to witnesses in Ekiti State, many of the major roads that lead the way into the Ekiti State capital, Ado-Ekiti, have been barricaded and shut down by thugs under the direction of Governor Ayo Fayose.

A spokesperson for Governor Fayose confirmed to SaharaReporters that “PDP supporters are at checkpoints [at Ado-Ekiti] and are preventing APC lawmakers from creating anarchy.” The spokesman continued by saying that the lawmakers’ efforts to impeach Governor Fayose is intended to stop the peace in the State.

SaharaReporters was able to confirm that these thugs are under the direction of Fayose, according to sources. However, Fayose’s spokesperson denies this.

This latest development comes days after Governor Fayose promised an uprising in his State if All Progressives Congress (APC) lawmakers continued on with their impeachment efforts against him. In particular he called on the motorcycle riders and other groups of Ekiti citizens to obstruct daily life in the State.

APC lawmakers have been conflicting with Governor Fayose non-stop for months, amid his attempts to suppress APC voters in Ekiti State during the local and national elections. Governor Fayose has also been publicly humiliated when SaharaReporters revealed his role in rigging the gubernatorial election in his favor in 2014.

Witnesses observed Fayose’s thugs barricade the Olasore side and Efon Alaye section of the express road, as well as the Ikere section of the Akure-Ado express road.

Witnesses say the thugs expressed they would not open the roads until 4pm this Wednesday.
