Ondo APC Wants FG To Declare June 12 As ‘‎Freedom Day’

Adesanya added that, "a day will come, soon, when the Progressives, from the North and South, East and West, irrespective of their political divide and persuasion, language and tribe, culture and tradition, ideology and belief would come together to salvage our country Nigeria from the myriad of political, economical and social malaise. When the sovereignty of the people will be placed as a national priority through ballot, as one united Nigeria.”

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo State, has called on the Nigerian Government, especially the National Assembly, to institutionalize June 12 and declared it Freedom Day.

On Thursday,The Ondo State APC’s publicity secretary, Omo'ba Abayomi Adesanya, issued a statement calling for June 12 to be honored as "freedom or liberty day". This statement was obtained by a Sahara Reporters correspondent in Akure, the capital of Ondo State.

Adesanya said June 12, 1993, was “symbolic, special, heroic and indelible to the annals of the history of our democracy, freedom and liberty of our dear people and country, Nigeria."

He explained that June 12 was “a day Nigerians filled out in Millions, to speak in one voice to elect the most popular President of Nigeria, Chief Moshood Kashimawo Olawale (MKO) Abiola, in an election that was annulled by the military junta [of] General Ibrahim Badamosi Babangida."

According to Adesanya, ‎spirited Nigerians would continue to celebrate, respect, honor and remembered June 12 and pray for those who lost their lives including families to the tragic-day.

"Twelve itself is symbolic and spiritual, so let us all from the North, South East and West, respect and honour June 12 and put it in a place of pride,” he exhorted.

He added that, "a day will come, soon, when the Progressives, from the North and South, East and West, irrespective of their political divide and persuasion,  language and tribe, culture and tradition,  ideology and belief would come together to salvage our country Nigeria from the myriad of political, economical and social malaise. When the sovereignty of the people will be placed as a national priority through ballot, as one united Nigeria.”

The statement concluded by declaring: "JUNE 12 has come to stay! Happy Remembrance Day!"
