Harlem Hospital Center Celebrates The Retirement Of Dr. Ferdinand A. Ofodile

Dr. Ofodile, who spent over 32 years at the hospital and rose to become Chief of Plastic Surgery, was credited with keeping the plastic surgery program at Harlem Hospital going when he secured a partnership with Colombia and Cornel Medical Schools. Several top medical professionals from across the country and abroad came to bear witness to the accomplishments of Dr. Ofodile.

The crème de la crème of Harlem Hospital Center and Colombia University Medical Center came out to celebrate the retirement of Nigerian-born plastic surgeon, Dr. Ferdinand A. Ofodile last night.  The event took place at the historic Harlem Commonwealth Council.

Dr. Ofodile, who spent over 32 years at the hospital and rose to become Chief of Plastic Surgery, was credited with keeping the plastic surgery program at Harlem Hospital going when he secured a partnership with Colombia and Cornel Medical Schools. Several top medical professionals from across the country and abroad came to bear witness to the accomplishments of Dr. Ofodile.

Dr. Ofodile, the inventor of the Ofodile Nasal Implant, a nasal implant for people of color was praised for his contribution to the hospital. “If Michael Jackson had chosen a different plastic surgeon, like Ofodile, the result would have been different,“ said one of the participants.

A member of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, Dr. Ofodile has led medical missions at various countries including; Nigeria, Mozambique, Haiti, Dominican Republic amongst others.
