Legendary Nigerian Musician, Dan Maraya Jos Dies At 69

“One of Nigeria’s foremost Hausa musicians, poet, philosopher and philanthropist, Dr Adamu Dan Maraya Jos has answered Allah’s call about an hour ago,” Mr. Salihu posted on his Facebook page at about 4pm on Saturday.

One of the most respected Nigerian musicians from the Northern Hausa speaking region of Nigeria Adamu Wayya, better known as Dan Maraya Jos, died according to his friend and close associate, Ladan Salihu. He was 69 years old.

“One of Nigeria’s foremost Hausa musicians, poet, philosopher and philanthropist, Dr Adamu Dan Maraya Jos has answered Allah’s call about an hour ago,” Mr. Salihu posted on his Facebook page at about 4pm on Saturday.

Ladan Salihu is the Director-General of the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN).

It was also revealed that that Dan Maraya Jos passed away in Jos after a brief illness. Mr. Salihu said on “When I visited him two weeks ago, he spoke passionately about the Unity of the North and of one Nigeria.”

His last known public performance was at the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) fundraising dinner in Abuja, prior to the 2015 general election.

His death has thrown a lot of his fans into deep mourning, with some taking to Facebook to mourn his departure.
