Al-Shabaab Terrorists Kill 14 In Kenya, Lawmakers Demand Action

“We have suggested various ways to stop the attacks, but we have not been listened to,” Mandera Senator Billow Kerrow said, commenting that the government has not done enough. A previous Al-Shabaab attack in December 2014 killed 36 non-Muslim quarry workers in Mandera.

Al-Shabaab terrorists killed 14 and injured 8 in Mandera, Kenya on Tuesday, according to the Daily Nation. The publication quoted details given by Kenyan Interior Cabinet Secretary Joseph Nkaissery, who emphasized that swift police action saved the remaining 136 villagers targeted by the attack.

Around 1:30 AM armed attackers from Somalia raided the Mbuzi village of Mandera while residents slept in tents. They entered by blowing up a gate using a homemade bomb and immediately started shooting once inside the village.

"The swift response by the police repelled the attackers who fled back to Somalia,” Nkaissery said. “Unfortunately, 11 Kenyans were killed during the attack while three others succumbed to injuries while undergoing treatment" in Nairobi. Kenya Defence Forces and police launched a joint investigation to track down the terrorists.

In the wake of the attack, Mandera lawmakers questioned the government's relaxed response to repeated terrorist attacks in the region and their obligation to protect the lives of workers across the country.

“We have suggested various ways to stop the attacks, but we have not been listened to,” Mandera Senator Billow Kerrow said, commenting that the government has not done enough. A previous Al-Shabaab attack in December 2014 killed 36 non-Muslim quarry workers in Mandera.

The Central Kenya Parliamentary caucus reprimanded the killings of the 14 quarry workers as a terrorist act attempting to separate Kenyans by religion. Guided by Senator Kiraitu Murungi, the lawmakers sent appeals to President Uhuru Kenyatta to throw away all precaution and mercilessly deal with Kenya's frequent attacks.
