The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo State has asked the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) to order the immediate arrest of the State's Speaker of the House of Assembly, Jumoke ‎Akindele, and its Clerk, Bayo Adeyelu, for prosecution over an alleged act of conspiracy and forgery.

The APC’s remarks were included in a statement issued on Tuesday by its Publicity Secretary, Omo'ba Abayomi Adesanya, and obtained by SaharaReporters in Akure, the State capital.

Mr. Adesanya accused Speaker Akindele and Clerk Adeyelu of allegedly compromising with the embattled Governor Olusegun Mimiko to purportedly swear in the two controversial fake Ondo lawmakers, Abayomi Akinrutan and Coker Malachi. ‎Both Mr. Akinrutan and Mr. Malachi were exposed by this newspaper last week over allegedly forgery and falsification of public documents.

Mr. Adesanya stated that it was against the tenant of the constitution of the country to swear in the two suspected contestants as members of the State House of Assembly without their having been issued Certificates of Return by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). He wondered how the two contestants, whose elections were declared inconclusive by the electoral body, would be sworn in as substantive lawmakers of the State House of Assembly despite this.

"When a candidate is elected as a member of the National or State Assembly, a Certificate of Return is issued in the name of the contestant by the Independent National Electoral Commission, which the Clerk of the Assembly will confirmed before performing an oaths of office and allegiance, which in turn will be in the custody of the Speaker of the House for records purposes. In the case of these two gentlemen, they have not followed the due process," the statement added. "This is a clear case of impunity at its peak and this how government has been run in Ondo state in the last six years under the leadership of Dr. Olusegun Mimiko.”
