The attack occurred on Maiduguri/Damaturu highway around 5:20 PM in a remote village Wasaram in Yobe state, leaving 15 people dead. The rampaging terrorists set ablaze homes and vehicles in the village.
''They killed 15 people, and many suffered gunshot wounds, homes were destroyed as well as some vehicles,'' Yusuf Rabiu told SaharaReporters by phone.
Motorists and travellers on the Maiduguri-Damaturu highway were were stranded as security operatives blocked the highway after the attack on Wasaram village.
Boko Haram has intensified attacks on Maiduguri-Damaturu highway in recent days, fueling speculations that the deadly sect might be planning a major attack on Maiduguri, the Borno state capital.
A security source also disclosed to our correspondent that there was an attack on a village along the Maiduguri-Kano highway, but Nigerian troops repelled the attack.
