The Civil Society Network Against Corruption lauded Nigeria’s Economic and Financial Crimes Commision during a press conference at the Centre for Social Justice in Abuja on Wednesday.
The Civil Society Network Against Corruption (CSNAC) has lauded Nigeria’s Economic and Financial Crimes Commision (EFCC), which has been vigorously fighting corruption through arrests of corrupt individuals, including state governors, revered political figures, and others involved with stealing public funds. The group made its comments during a press conference at the Centre for Social Justice in Abuja on Wednesday.
CSNAC also mentioned its support for the EFCC’s arrest of Stephen Orosanye, who was indicted by a federal government audit committee for abusing his position and engaging in corruption through his involvement in pension fund fraud. Mr. Orosanye must be dutifully prosecuted, removed from the board of CBN, and replaced as the Chairman of the Financial Action Task Force, the statement said.
The civil society group also urged the judiciary branch of the government to adopt the vigor of President Buhari's anti-corruption administration. On that note, it also suggested that Mr. Orosanye's case be transferred from Justice Gabriel Kolawole, whose integrity the group questioned.
Finally, President Buhari needs to take further steps that guaranteed tenure for anti-corruption agencies who performed effectively, CSNAC asserted, lest they suffer consequences for doing their job.
