In a short statement signed by its acting director of public relations, Colonel Sani Kukasheka Usman, the army disclosed that “a team of Nigerian Army Special Forces, Explosives Ordinance Devices with support from Nigeria Police and local vigilante” collaborated to remove the mines.

The statement revealed that the team of mine removers had found and detonated four Improvised Explosives Devices (IEDs) “planted by suspected Boko Haram terrorists.”

The army encouraged commuters to continue to use the road, adding that troops were providing adequate security.

“The Nigerian Army wishes to further enjoin the public to be more security conscious and report any suspicious persons and movements to the security agents,” Colonel Usman urged.
