Pompomarri village is 12 kilometers away from Biu town in southern Borno State.
It is estimated that, in addition to the nine deaths, dozens were injured from the gunfire and many homes were burned down.
''They came last night while many of us were asleep. We later discovered that nine people were shot dead and13 others wounded,'' resident Ahamdu Ibrahim told SaharaReporters by phone.
Musa Biu, a leader of the local vigilante group, told our correspondent, ''Some of our men in Pompomarri village told us that 9 persons were killed but 2 of them had fled Boko Haram from [the nearby] Damboa town.”
