The All Progressives Congress (APC) has named Femi Gbajabiamila the majority leader in the House of Representatives today. The announcement comes after weeks of division and political crisis in the APC. Mr. Gbajabiamila lost his opportunity to be Speaker of the House during this power struggle.

Mr. Gbajabiamila emerged as the majority leader hours after President Buhari demanded that the APC end this internal power struggle, which has persisted for weeks.

Mr. Gbajabiamila initially contested for the Speaker of the House position but lost to Yakubu Dogara during the power struggle in the National Assembly, which saw APC factions and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) members sponsor Mr. Dogara for House Speaker and Bukola Saraki for Senate President.

Femi Gbajabiamila represents the Surulere I constituency in Lagos State. Previously he was the minority leader in the House of Representatives during the 7th National Assembly.
