Beninese troops will join the multinational task force fighting against Boko Haram, President Thomas Boni Yayi said this weekend, according to AFP.

After meeting with Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari, Mr. Yayi said that 800 soldiers from Benin would join those from his counterpart's country, Cameroon, Niger, and Chad to combat the terrorist organization based in northeastern Nigeria.

The multinational task force is based in Chad under the command of Nigerian Major General Iliya Abbah, and is meant to augment the regional coordination of the counterinsurgency fight.

More than 800 people have been killed by Boko Haram attacks in northeastern Nigeria since President Buhari took office two months ago. The recent wave of attacks has also spread to neighboring Chad and Cameroon.
