Ondo State APC Criticizes Mimiko Over Latest N7 Billion Loan

On Wednesday the Party issued a statement through its Publicity Secretary Omo’ba Abayomi Adesanya cautioning the bank from granting such loan for Mimiko, stressing that his previous infrastructure projects have not justified the N44 billion debt incurred by the State.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo State has questioned the embattled Governor Olusegun Mimiko to explain publicly why his government is seeking the sum of N7 billion loans for infrastructure from Access Bank Plc in the State.

The Party has also challenged the Governor to give account for all allocations collected by his administration since its inception six years ago.

The Ondo State House of Assembly had on Tuesday permitted the embattled Governor Mimiko to borrow the sum of N7 billion for infrastructure projects.

On Wednesday the Party issued a statement through its Publicity Secretary Omo’ba Abayomi Adesanya cautioning the bank from granting such loan for Mimiko, stressing that his previous infrastructure projects have not justified the N44 billion debt incurred by the State.

Mr. Adesanya accused Mimiko of trying to create a mess for the incoming government that will take over from him in 2017.

Mr. Adesanya said in the statement “we have it on good authority that the said N7billion loan was only meant for the completion of the ‘Dome Project’ and the Fiwasaye/Oba-Ile/airport road. These projects have been on since 2009.”

He added that “[Governor] Mimiko should explain to the people of Ondo State why he should be seeking more loans for the completion of the project” when “N4.1 billion was awarded” for these projects in 2013.

The statement added that previous infrastructure loans have not improved the economy and that the Mimiko administration have “grounded the economy of the State.” It added that “in Ondo State, government taxes have weakened commercial activities” and “that the poor masses are being denied government facilities through taxation.”
