Mr. Opadokun confirmed a Boko Haram attack to reporters in a text message last night. He added that the police are advising Maiduguri residents and local Vigilante Groups to screen vehicle and foot traffic.

‎''Towns and villages outside Maiduguri are advised to set up vigilante groups where no CJTF [Civilian Joint Task Force] exist to screen people entering markets, Mosque, Church or any large gathering,'' he said.

‎Mr. Opadokun said that ''any suspected suicide bomber or sponsor arrested [must be] handed over to the nearest Police Station or security post. Law abiding citizens are advised to be law abiding and be extra vigilant‎.''

He did not confirm the casualty figure from the Sabon Gari market attack yesterday in the Damboa Local Government Area (LGA).

The Borno State Police Commissioner did state that ''there was an IED explosion at Sabon Gari market Damboa LGA. Officials visiting Biu reported many dead and about 30 injured. A suspected male suicide bomber is believed to have strapped the IED around his body detonated it in the open Market. The injured victims are now being treated at Biu General Hospital.”
