Unknown gunmen invaded the office of the Ondo State Oil Producing Development Commission (OSOPADEC) on Oba Ile road, a suburb of Akure, the state’s capital.

The gunmen stole several cars parked inside the compound of the office.

The cars belonged directly to the commission and its top management staff, SaharaReporters learned on Wednesday.

The armed men also damaged lots of office equipment and vandalized properties bearing the OSOPADEC inscription.

Numbering about seven, the hoodlums had surveilled the offices of the commission for the past few weeks, a staff member told SaharaReporters.

"We don't know what they are looking for. Many of them always think we banked money here in the office since our management staff rides in [nice] vehicles," the source said, pleading anonymity.

Sources told SaharaReporters that there have been several recent thefts on the commission’s staff members, always involving stealing a car at gunpoint.

However, the Police in Oba Ile Division has visited the scene of operation and has since commenced investigation to smoke out the suspects.  Ondo State Police Spokesman Wole Ogodo reluctantly confirmed the incident to SaharaReporters. Mr. Ogodo said some staff of the commission, mostly the security guards, had been invited for questioning over the incident.

He refused to give further details when pressed further by SaharaReporters’ correspondent.
