Senate Minority Leader Godswill Akpabio has left Nigeria in his private jet to receive better medical attention abroad, according to The Punch.

The former governor of Akwa Ibom State flew from Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport on Tuesday with a handful of aides. The Punch also notes that according to airport sources, Senator Akpabio was “fit physically” as he boarded his plane.

“The former governor travelled with his own private flight and had about five persons who accompanied him on the trip. He looked physically okay, although some of the men with him said he might receive medical attention abroad due to the car crash he was involved in on Monday,” an airport source told The Punch.

Senator Akpabio was involved in a crash on Monday on his way to the airport when his car crashed into a convoy of vehicles from the American embassy while running a traffic light.

None of the US officials nor Senator Akpabio’s driver were injured, but the senator himself suffered some form injury in his chest.

The crash took place early on Monday morning. Senator Akpabio was immediately rushed to the National Hospital in Abuja following the incident.
