The Collapse Of The Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway

The  Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway has broken down almost completely as years of neglect, and token repairs leave the major interstate link road in total disrepair.

The craters now deepened has begun to swallow vehicles.

The most notorious portion is Ile-Epo bus stop where flood waters seem permanently present even when it doesn't rain, and usually, the stagnant flood shut out engines and detain vehicles, causing hectic traffic jams that last for hours.

The express road said to be a federal trunk road has been abandoned for several years under past Nigerian administrations.

A former Nigerian President, Olusegun Obasanjo, has had to spend hours in traffic jams along the road in recent past, sometimes missing important flights. The former president refused to fix the highway because he had political disagreements with a former Lagos state governor, Bola Tinubu, while visiting his Otta farm during his time in office, Obasanjo chose to  fly over the road by helicopter rather than fix it.
