Ziworitin Alamieyeseigha, who is believed to be a cousin of the man whom some people called the “Governor General of Ijaw nation” shared a selfie he took with the former policeman as he lay in a coma in the intensive care unit of the hospital.

Mr. Alamieyeseigha soon afterwards on Saturday died of an undisclosed illness. Shortly before his demise, Mr. Alamieyeseigha fled Dubai, United Arab Emirates, out of fear that the UK police would seek his extradition from that country.  He jumped bail in the UK in 2005, reportedly wearing a female dress.  Former Delta State governor James Ibori, it would be recalled, was extradited to the UK from the UAE, and was sent to jail for 13  years.

Mr. Alamieyeseigha, as governor of Bayelsa was impeached and later convicted by the EFCC in 2005 for graft and money laundering.

Following his hurried departure from Dubai, the 63-year old Alamieyesigha, who was granted state pardon by President Goodluck Jonathan, his former deputy governor, suffered a heart attack which led to his death.
