Lagos Court Declares LGA ‘Caretaker Committees’ Unconstitutional, Elections To Be Held

October 23, 2015

NCP's suit told the court to declare the Local Government Caretakers unconstitutional and order the State to conduct elections into the Local Government offices.

In a case brought before the court by National Conscience Party (NCP), the Lagos State Government was challenged for refusing to conduct elections in all the Local Government Areas (LGA) in the State. Rather than hold democratic elections, the State had set up and maintained "Caretaker Committees" to manage the Local Government offices.
