Governor Akinwunmi Ambode has ordered the immediate fixing of road potholes that contribute to miles of dangerous traffic in many parts of Lagos State.

The governor disclosed this in a speech today at the inaugural retreat for members of his cabinet.

Parts of Lagos that are notorious for traffic troubles have become prime targets for robbers who pilfer from travelers stuck in traffic.
In recent weeks, multiple robbery occurrences have complicated the horrendous road traffic in the state, with large numbers of commuters lamenting a variety of experiences.

Acknowledging those developments, Governor Ambode said he will take a tough stance against traffic offences.  He also announced plans to address the spate of robberies.  He did not elaborate how this would happen.

Our correspondent reports that a well-known bus stop at Ile-Epo on the Lagos-Abeokuta expressway is now being fixed, as some construction workers have been sighted with construction materials and equipment.  We recently reported on the abandonment, for many years, of the area and the large craters in it.

In the speech to his commissioners today, Governor Ambode warned motorcycle operators, saying their operations pose a security threat to commuters in the State.
