The demonstrators were protesting against the continued detention of Nnamdi Kanu the jailed host of Radio Free Biafra.

Mr. Kanu was arrested on October 19th by the Department of State Security (DSS). It will be recalled that on Friday SaharaReporters broke the news of the arrest of 83 members of the Biafran Movement in Bayelsa State.

In Enugu the demonstrators were clad in the Biafran colors of red and black and marched through the major streets of the city.  However, the protesters were largely peaceful and took care not to disrupt motorists.

In a text to Vanguard Newspaper the Director of Information for the Movement for the Actualization of the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB) Uchenna Madu, noted that the group, “shall hold Igbo Governors, National Assembly members, traditional rulers, and opinion leaders responsible if Nnamdi Kanu is not released in the coming week. Continued detention of Mr. Kanu will worsen the already fragile security situation in Nigeria.”
