The statement is official confirmation that Mr. Lamorde whose tenure expires  in February has been removed from the EFCC by President Buhari today.

Mr. Magu, an Assistant Commissioner of Police, takes over from Mr. Ibrahim Lamorde, who was fired earlier today.

The statement said Mr. Lamorde who got the job in 2011, would proceed on terminal leave ahead of the formal expiration of his tenure next February.

Mr. Lamorde is currently being investigated by the Senate, accused by a petitioner of diverting about N1trn in proceeds of corruption recovered by the commission.

Last month, the federal Ministry of Justice directed the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission to investigate the allegation that Mr. Lamorde diverted the funds.

He has denied all the allegations.
