The Sylva-Igiri Campaign Organisation of the All Progressives Congress (APC) described as "spurious" and "laughable" allegations made by the Restoration Campaign Organisation of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) planned to rig the forthcoming election in favor of the APC.
Director of Media and Publicity of the Sylva-Igiri Campaign Organisation, Nathan Egba, expressed shock at the PDP’s allegations. Mr. Egba also noted that these allegations come at a time when the APC requested that the PDP-aligned Governor Seriake Dickson be investigated by security agencies.
The spokesman dismissed the allegations that the APC intended to rig the election with the aid of security agencies and the INEC as, “the thinking of a sinking ship and a loser.”
In fact, Mr. Egba argued, it was the PDP that was planning to rig the elections through the manipulation of INEC and the security forces. He cited evidence discovered by the APC that, “a senior INEC official in Bayelsa State is working closely with them [PDP] to compromise the election. The said official was used to rig the last National and State Assembly election in the state."
Mr. Egba also accused the PDP of manufacturing fake military and police uniforms in order to allow their stalwarts to impersonate police and military officials during the elections.
He stressed that the APC would not engage in the same tactics as the PDP, and would win the Bayelsa State elections legally. The spokesman also took a jab at Governor Dickson over the supposed defections of PDP members to the APC in Bayelsa State.
Mr. Egba concluded by expressing his complete confidence that the APC candidate Timipre Sylva would win the governorship of Bayelsa State.
