Operation Pluto Shield Leads To Seizure Of More Than 140,000 Litres Of Oil, Navy Claims

Thus far, the Nigerian Navy has arrested 5 oil thieves and recovered more than 140,000 litres of stolen oil during Operation Pluto Shield according to Naval officials.

The operation is a joint military operation focused on patrolling the Niger Delta to deter oil theft and piracy in the region.  

It will be recalled that on Friday, SaharaReporters issued a report on the seizure of a vessel containing 4,000 litres of stolen oil.  

The spokesman for Operation Pluto Shield, Lt.-Col. Isa Ado issued a statement claiming that the arrests and seizure of stolen oil occurred over the past 10 days.  Lt. Ado also noted the capture of 14 vessels utilized for the purposes of theft and banditry.

He praised the efforts of the Naval Forward Operation Base for the successful destruction of various illegal oil bunkering sites. According to Naval officials Nigeria loses billions of Naira each year to oil theft and bunkering.
