SaharaReporters can confirm that the former Director General of the Department of State Services (DSS), Kayode Are, had his compound raided by DSS agents today in Lagos State. Witnesses to the raid report the sound of gunshots before Mr. Are was removed from his residence.
One informant told SaharaReporters that DSS broke down the outer gates of his residence and also his front door.
The Premium Times reported that the present DG of the DSS wrote to Mr. Are demanding that he vacate his residence because the allocation of the house may not have been legal. It is customary for all former DG of the DSS to received a property paid by the Federal Government after they leave the service.
Mr. Are was appointed as the DG of the DSS by former President Olusegun Obasanjo, serving from 1999 to 2007. He is also a retired Army Colonel serving in military intelligence until his retired by former military dictator Sani Abacha.
