SaharaReporters spoke with Mr. Obetta by phone when he confirmed that the Federal High Court sitting in Abuja ruled that Mr. Kanu be released unconditionally. This ruling, which took place this morning, comes after the Department for State Services (DSS) withdrew its case against Mr. Kanu. Mr. Kanu was accused of conspiracy, incitement, terrorism, and operating an unlawful organization, charges which he and his attorney deny.

While speaking with a SaharaReporters correspondent, Mr. Obetta said that they were “working on paperwork to have Mr. Kanu released hopefully [for] tomorrow.”

Mr. Kanu has been detained by Nigerian authorities since October 14th and was denied access to legal and medical assistance during parts of his confinement.
