Gas Plant Explosion Kills Up To 100 People In Anambra State

Up to 100 people are believed to have perished in a gas plant explosion in Nnewi, Anambra State today. The Christmas Eve disaster reportedly began at 11am when a fire ignited as a commercial truck was discharging its contents at the Inter Corp Oil Ltd gas plant.

Sources speaking to Vanguard reported that customers at the gas plant as well as passersby were caught in the explosion, killing many and injuring an unknown number.

Victims of the explosion were moved to the Nnamdi Azikwe University Teaching Hospital (NAUTH) in Nnewi, according to eyewitnesses at the scene.

SaharaReporters contacted the Police Public Relations Officer (PRO) for Anambra State, however he could not immediately comment at the time of publication because he was travelling for the next two hours.
