According to reports, the kidnappers of the Bayelsa Commissioner for Local Government, Serefina Otazi, issued a ransom demand of N40 million.

Mrs. Otazi was abducted at gunpoint on December 20th as she was on her way to the Ewoi Community located in the Ogbia Local Government Area (LGA).

Speaking to Premium Times, Endurance Frank, a member of the family, confirmed that the kidnappers had contacted the family and demanded a ransom of N40 million.

Mrs. Otazi previously served as the Commissioner for Women Affairs and the acting Chairman of Ogbia LGA.

She was abducted less than 24 hours after Governor Seriake Dickson’s sister, Nancy Dickson, was also kidnapped.  Mrs. Dickson has not yet been released by her kidnappers.
