Bayelsa Governorship Campaigns Trade Words Over Alleged Deal Between Dickson And Buhari

The gubernatorial campaigns of incumbent Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governor Seriake Dickson and All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate Timipre Sylva traded another round of words in an ongoing drama in Bayelsa State alleging that Governor Dickson attempted to make a secret deal with officials in the Office of the President.

Their comments come days before the State’s supplementary election scheduled for January 9th.

The Sylva-Igiri Campaign Organization claimed that the deal between Governor Dickson took place at Aso Villa last Tuesday during a meeting with some of President Buhari’s aides. Nathan Egba, speaking for the campaign, alleged that Governor Dickson had offered to invest in the destabilization of the PDP at the National level and defect to the APC if allowed to win the January 9th election and secure his second term in office.

Mr. Egba stated that in exchange for the support of the President, Governor Dickson stated that he would “ferment an artificial ‎crisis in the PDP at the national level and use that as a basis to decamp from his party to the ruling APC” because “Bayelsa State cannot afford to remain in opposition to the ruling party."

The PDP, through the Director of Media for the Restoration Campaign Organization supporting Timipre Sylva, dismissed the allegations as “the usual game of lies, deceit, and wicked propaganda. Governor Dickson has no reason to defect to the APC in order to win an election that has already being won."

The January 9th supplementary election is expected to decide the Governor of Bayelsa State.
