New Commanders for Operation Lafiya Dole And Army 7 Division Take Over

The new Theatre Commander of Operation Lafiya Dole, Major General Hassan Umaru made assurances that the counter-insurgency operation in the Northeast would be pursued vigorously. In addition, Brigadier General Victor Ezugwu succeeded Major General Lamidi Adeosun as the General Officer Commanding (GOC), of the 7th Division of the Nigerian Army, Maiduguri.

The new Theatre Commander of Operation Lafiya Dole, Major General Hassan Umaru made assurances that the counter-insurgency operation in the Northeast would be pursued vigorously.

On Monday, General Umaru saluted his predecessor Major General Yusha`u Abubakar for what he described as the latter’s gallant efforts in tackling the terrorists in the Northeast.

''I assure you that we shall continue on the foundation you laid down we will do our all best to make sure that this war against Boko Haram is ended. We are not new to this operation and there is no time to waste,'' General Umaru promised.

While handing over the command to his successor, General Abubakar described the officers and men who operated in the Northeast theater as heroes, stating that many of them put their lives on the line in the defense of the nation.

'”Today I leave the leadership of the Operation Lafiya Dole a happy man because we have successfully completed what is best for the military and the country at large.  I am leaving the leadership [of Operation Lafiya Dole] to a person who is already in the theater of war and is familiar with the terrain in this area of the operation," General Abubakar stated.

In addition, Brigadier General Victor Ezugwu succeeded Major General Lamidi Adeosun as the General Officer Commanding (GOC), of the 7th Division of the Nigerian Army, Maiduguri.  General Adeosun described his successor as a fine officer, the general is set to be the commander of the regional military operation the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF) based in N’Djamena the capital of Chad.

General Lamidi expressed gratitude to the officers of his past command for the cooperation given to him and urged them to extend the same to his successor.
