Governor Mimiko’s departure comes at a time when, according to the Ondo State APC, the State is facing problems of power outages, business hardships, and high fuel prices.

On Wednesday, the Ondo State APC’s Director of Publicity and Media, Steve Otaloro, issued a press statement calling on the governor to remember his responsibility to the people of the State.

Mr. Otaloro argued that by jetting to Bayelsa State to campaign for Governor Dickson, Mr. Mimiko had abandoned his constitutional responsibilities to the people of Ondo State.

These actions, Mr. Otaloro claimed, indicate that Governor Mimiko did not have any concrete solutions to the myriad problems facing Ondo State.

"It is obvious that Governor Mimiko is bereft of ideas on how to deliver good governance, given that he has spent more time outside Ondo State playing politics across the country, as well as flying all over the world to attend to private matters rather trying to alleviate the suffering of the people of Ondo State,” Mr. Otaloro explained.

In particular, the Director of Publicity and Media attacked the Mimiko administration for failing to resolve the blackouts which have plagued the State for several weeks.

"For a long time now, and since the beginning of this year, a great portion of Ondo State has been in total darkness owing to a lack of electricity in major cities in the State,” Mr. Otaloro noted.

Fuel providers in Ondo State have been selling petrol at prices well above the government mandated price of N85 per litre, another issue raised by Mr. Otaloro.

"Petrol dealers in Ondo State, in flagrant disregard for the Federal Government's directive that pump price should be reduced to N85 per litre, still sell PMS at over N120 per litre at most filling stations across the State,” the APC member explained.

The statement noted that the Mimiko administration has allegedly colluded with petrol dealers in the State to sabotage the Federal Government's efforts in ameliorating the suffering of the masses as a result of the high pump price.

He disclosed that business activities have severely dipped. The trend, according to Mr. Otaloro, is most noticeable in the State capital of Akure where small and medium scale enterprises have collapsed as a result of the prolonged power outage.

The statement concluded by noting that Governor Mimiko's lackadaisical attitude was evident in his administration's lack of commitment and failure to ensure the people of the State enjoyed the dividends of democracy.
