Perpetrators Of Bayelsa Poll Violence Will Be Punished, Arase Says

The Inspector-General of Police, Solomon Arase, says that perpetrators of the violence that marred the Bayelsa supplementary poll will be punished.

He stated that investigation to apprehend the masterminds had commenced, noting that three people lost their lives during the election.

Arase, who stated this on Tuesday when the Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed visited him, explained that the police under his leadership was being driven by rule of law, accountability, technology and intelligence.

“The violence during the Bayelsa supplementary poll is regrettable, but let me assure you that the perpetrators will be brought to book soon. Investigation has commenced to unravel the people behind the incident that led to the death of three people,” the IG stated.

He said the police had embarked on projects aimed at enhancing the intelligence of the force to strengthen its operational capacity.

Arase said that the police was also vigorously pursuing policy frameworks targeted at situating functions within rule of law and fundamental rights.
