A duo of correspondents, working for Punch and the Nation newspapers respectively, in Bayelsa State are now under close watch by operatives of the Police and Secret Service commands following orders written by Governor Seriake Dickson. Simon Uterbo, of The Punch newspaper, reported on the inaction of Governor Dickson regarding securing the release of his younger sister, Nancy Dickson. According to Mr. Uterbo, Mrs. Dickson "has continued to languish in kidnappers’ den after over 42 days of abduction"
Mike Odiegwu, of The Nation newspaper, published a piece entitled "Anger as Dickson 's sister suffers in kidnappers' den 45 days after". In his report, Mr. Odiegwu published several comments by several sources who expressed disbelief that Governor Dickson allowed his sister to remain in captivity.
SaharaReporters can authoritatively state that Governor Dickson petitioned the Department of State Services (DSS) and Police commands to intimidate these two journalists after he read their reports.
Speaking to SaharaReporters Mr. Odiegwu stated that he and Mr. Utebo is being tracked by the police and agents of the DSS.
"Our movements are being tracked and monitored by police and DSS."
“I have been phoned by the police while Mr. Uterbo of The Punch has also been called by the DSS official," Mr. Odiegwu said.
