PDP Victorious In Akwa Ibom And Cross River State Re-Run Elections

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) won a sweeping victory in all available seats in the re-run elections in Akwa Ibom and Cross River States this weekend.

Elections in Akwa Ibom and Cross River States were held on Saturday, March 12, 2016.

The senatorial seat in Akwa Ibom State was won by Bassey Albert, who received 256,110 votes. He defeated the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate Emmanuel Obot and Accord Party candidate Ubong Edet, who won 36,775 votes and 6,368 votes respectively, according to the Nation newspaper.

The PDP also secured the five State constituencies in Akwa Ibom State. The winners in these contests were Aniefiok Dennis, Aniekan Uko, Effiong Bassey, Idongesit Ituan, and Idongesit Ntekpere.

In Cross River State, PDP candidate Eteng Williams won the Yakur II State constituency seat in the Cross River State House of Assembly. Mr. Williams won 4,380 votes to defeat APC candidate Bassey Inah and Labour Party candidate Eno Inam, who won 3,670 and 2,180 votes, respectively.

PDP victories in Akwa Ibom and Cross River States come three weeks after similar results in Taraba State.

In the February 22 Taraba State re-run elections, PDP candidate Dan-Asabe Hosea won the Sardauna/Kurmi/Gashaka federal constituency with 37,645 votes, narrowly defeating APC rival Ibrahim Elsudi, who won 37,609 votes.

In the Mbamnga State constituency election, former Speaker of the State Assembly Abel Diah won 7,825 votes in his victory over Emmanuel Bongo, who received 5,642 votes.

PDP candidate Emmanuel Dame won the Ardo Kola State constituency with 12,310 votes over APC candidate Alhaji Sanusi Wale’s 11,047 votes, giving the PDP victories in all of Taraba State’s re-run elections.
