The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has confirmed the death of a youth corps member during the Rivers State rerun election on Saturday. The member, Okonta Samuel, was shot and killed by unknown gunmen in the Ahoada West Local Government Area (LGA).
According to reports, there were two other youth corps members with Mr. Samuel at the time of his death, but they were rescued by security agents without reports of injury.
The NYSC statement said that, “The murder of this patriotic young man, who was an orphan, is primitive, barbaric, and ungodly; and should be strongly condemned by all well-meaning Nigerians.”
Another corps member who had previously been reported missing, Anana Aniekan Udoetor, has been found, according to the statement.
