An eyewitness confirmed that the soldiers, who were on the security detail of the Setraco personnel at the site of the road project, came under heavy fire from the bushes. The witness described the attack as an ambush.

The police spokesman for the Bayelsa State Command, Butswat Asinim, confirmed the abduction of the expatriate, describing him as “a Lebanese expatriate, Ramzi Bau Hadir, aged 53 years.” He said he did not have details regarding the two soldiers who were killed.

Some of the indigenes of Nembe kingdom, who were returning to Yenagoa en-route Opume Road, were caught in the early morning shootout.

Operation Polu Shield spokesman, Colonel Isa Ado, confirmed the killing of two soldiers.

“Two of our men were killed in the early hours of today at Nembe junction, while one expatriate was abducted. It is saddening to lose these gallant soldiers, but efforts have been put in place to track down the perpetrators,” he stated.
