No “National Grazing Bill” Exists At Senate – Omoworare, Abaribe

Senator Babajide Omoworare, who chairs the Senate Committee on Rules and Business, on Tuesday, affirmed that a National Grazing Bill is not currently in the Senate, arising from the Executive arm or filed by any member of the 8th Senate.

Omoworare, who represents Osun East SenatorialDistrict, explained that the clarification became necessary because senators have been inundated with questions from members of the public regarding such a bill.

He explained it was only during the 7th Senate that a bill for the establishment of a national grazing reserve and development commission was filed by Senator Zaynab Kure (Niger Central) but that it has no bearing on the current Senate.

"For the avoidance of doubt a National Grazing Reserve Establishment and Development Commission Bill (SB.60) was presented by Senator Zaynab Kure (Niger Central) during the 7th Senate (2011-2015), which has now expired by the operations of law on the 6th June 2015, in furtherance of Section 64 (1) of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended)," he stated.

Earlier on Tuesday, Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe of Abia-South Senatorial District of Abia State had also told SaharaReporters there was no grazing Commission Bill pending before the Senate.

Abaribe said he was invoking “Order 43 (Personal Explanation) to inform all Nigerians that there is such bill as “Grazing Commission Bill” before the NigeriaSenate.

“So the hysteria about a non-existent or phantom bill should be laid to rest,” he concluded.
