EFCC Arraigns Three for Currency Counterfeiting

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on Thursday, 21 April 2016 arraigned the trio of Salisu Adamu, Muhammed Hamma and Muhammed Tukur before Justice B.B Aliyu of Federal High Court Yola, Adamawa State, on three count charge bordering on conspiracy and being in possession of counterfeit US Dollar and Naira notes.

The accused persons were allegedly caught with three hundred and sixty one (361) pieces of counterfeit 100 US Dollar notes and ninety nine (99) pieces of counterfeit  Naira notes in N1000 denomination.

One of the counts reads, “that you, Salisu Adamu, (M) 41 years, sometime in July 2015 at Jambutu, Yola South Local Government of Adamawa State within the jurisdiction of this Honorable Court did commit an offence to wit: being in possession of three Hundred and sixty one (361) pieces of counterfeit 100 US Dollars Notes knowing same to be Counterfeit and thereby committed an offence contrary to be and punishable under section 5(1)(B) of Counterfeit Currency (Special Provisions) Act Cap C35, LFN 2004”.

The accused persons pleaded not guilty when the charges were read to them.

In view of the plea of the accused persons, the prosecution counsel, A.Y Muntaka asked for a trial date and prayed the Court to remand the accused persons to prison custody while the defense counsel Augustine Sambo did not Oppose.

Justice Aliyu adjourned the matter to 11, 12 and 13 May, 2016 for trial, while  the accused persons were remanded in prison custody.
