Ondo State APC Accuses Mimiko Of Trading Bailout Funds As Loans In Exchange For Voters’ Cards

The main opposition party in Ondo State, All Progressives Congress (APC), announced on Thursday that it had uncovered a strategy by the State government to trade bailout funds as loans for certain groups in the State in exchange for their voters’ cards ahead of the gubernatorial poll.

The party mentioned that members of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), artisans, market women associations, Okada associations, and others were among the groups to be used in the trade.

APC Publicity Secretary Abayomi Adesanya said the plan of the embattled Governor Olusegun Mimiko is to issue the bailout funds as soft loans to the members of various groups in exchange for their voting cards.

In the statement obtained by a SaharaReporters correspondent in Akure, the party further alleged that the governor has begun witch-hunting groups that are refusing to submit their voters’ cards.

Mr. Adesanya also alleged that the incumbent Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) government has further threatened to deregister members of any association or group in the State that would oppose the governor’s plans.

"We have uncovered a new strategy by Governor Olusegun Mimiko to hoodwink the people of Ondo State and to illegally acquire their voters' cards under the guise as soft loans to certain groups of people and associations in the State.

"Using his surrogates planted within these associations, Mr. Governor has started witch-hunting and intimidating members who refused to submit details and photocopies of their voter cards.”

He added that the loans would be between N60,000 and N100,000.

"This is obviously robbing Peter to pay Paul. He is robbing the workers in the State of their salaries to give loans to the artisans, NURTW, and market women in exchange for their voters’ cards.

"We appeal to these groups, associations and the people of Ondo State not to fall for this evil plot by the governor. Voters’ cards…should not be released to anybody…. Doing so will amount to selling their future and that of their children,” Mr. Adesanya said.

The party has also challenged all security agencies in the State to investigate its allegations against the incumbent PDP government in order to unravel the agents behind this dastardly act and bring them to justice.
