Ungrateful Elements Behind Kano State Youth Violence, State Government Says

“The Ganduje administration remains fully committed to sustaining peace at all times. Our government has no safe haven for hoodlums who want to breach peace.”

The Kano State government has strongly condemned the violent protest staged by irate youths in Gaya, the hometown of Senator Kabiru Ibrahim Gaya and House of Representatives member Abdullahi Mahmud Gaya, which led to the vandalization of their houses and other properties.

Speaking to the media on Thursday, State Commissioner of Information Mohammed Garba said that after reviewing the situation, the government came to the conclusion that the violent protest was instigated by those who had an axe to grind with Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje and his administration.

According to him, the issue of clean water access was a burden the present administration inherited and was willing to tackle with determination, adding that the effort to provide potable drinking water to all the nooks and crannies of the State was a major cardinal thrust of the Ganduje administration.

Mr. Garba further stated that the Ganduje administration inherited a huge debt burden for the contracts executed by contractors agitating to be settled.

He added that Mr. Gaya and other politicians were working in tandem with stakeholders to address the issue of water and electricity in Gaya town.

The spokesman said the violent protest had exposed the irresponsibility of those hiding under the facade of politics to cause mayhem in a prevailing atmosphere of peace, stressing that those found to be the masterminds of the rampage would soon face the full wrath of the law.

Mr. Garba commended the police for their timely intervention, adding that the government would support the police in prosecuting the 18 suspects arrested in connection with the violence.

“The Ganduje administration remains fully committed to sustaining peace at all times. Our government has no safe haven for hoodlums who want to breach peace.”

He warned troublemakers to desist and called on parents to not allow their children to be taken advantage of by disgruntled politicians seeking to cause trouble in the State.

Mr. Garba commended security agencies in the State for taking prompt and urgent steps to contain the explosive situation in Gaya town, stressing that without such swift action, the crisis would have spun out of control.
