A Federal Capital Territory High Court today officially served the Senate President, Bukola Saraki, and the Deputy Senate President Ike Ekweremadu with charges of criminal conspiracy and forgery. Mr. Saraki and Mr. Ekweremadu are accused of forging the Senate Standing Rules 2015.
The charges were pasted on the notice boards of the two presiding officers of the Senate at the National Assembly on Tuesday by a court bailiff.
Spectators told SaharaReporters that, after the court bailiff left the area, a gaggle of NASS staff members were seen gathering around the charges. Some staff members were seen taking selfie photos with the posted charge sheets.
Some staff members expressed joy that judicial officers were willing to charge two of the most powerful political figures in Nigeria.
Mr. Saraki and Mr. Ekweremadu are now expected to appear before the court on Monday, June 27th to enter their plea.
