Modu Sheriff Still PDP Chairman, Faction Says

Embattled factional National Chairman of the PeoplesDemocratic Party (PDP), Sen. Ali Modu Sheriff, has denied being removed from office by an Abuja court.

He made the statement in a statement in Abuja on Wednesday signed by the National Secretary of his faction, Prof. Wale Oladipo, in response to reports in the media that a Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court had ousted him from office.

The statement said the court pronouncement had nothing to do with either his tenure or that of his predecessor, Adamu Mu'azu.

It described the reports as “completely false and a clear misrepresentation” of the ruling of the court.

"For the avoidance of doubt, the court only heard and delivered judgment on a matter concerning certain amendments in the PDP constitution, which has nothing to do with the election of Senator Ali ModuSheriff as the National Chairman or even that of his predecessor, Alhaji Adamu Muazu,” the statement said.

It asserted that Senator Sheriff was duly elected as the National Chairman of the PDP and continues in that office as he has not been removed by any court.

"We therefore urge those misleading the media and the unsuspecting public to desist from such,” Prof. Oladiposaid. “The media is also urged to always cross-check their facts before going to press."
