The Alleged Arrest Of Fayose Supporters By Ibrahim Aliu

July 11, 2016

The illogical and reckless statement issued by Mr. Fayose has linked a trio of Mr. Femi Falana (SAN), renown human rights activist, Senator Babafemi Ojudu, political adviser to President Buhari, and a PDP chieftain, Mr. Yinka Akerele, to the plan.

Governor Ayo Fayose has alleged perfected plans by the Police to arrest some of his government officials and supporters. It was further alleged that the police team would be led by a police officer from Isan Ekiti, the home town of ex-governor Kayode Fayemi.

Although the allegation is baseless, it is important to state that the police and security forces should not succumb to the reckless blackmail of Mr. Fayose, who has not been able to explain the source of resources used for the purchase of properties worth N1.35 billion, when he is owing workers' salaries of over 6 months in his state. In other words, since Mr. Fayose is immune from arrest for now,  his comrades-in-crime are to be arrested to explain their role in the looting of Ekiti treasury. For instance, Mr. Fayose's contractors and estate agents were arrested by the EFCC last week. They were reported to have made useful statements to the EFCC. Mr. Fayose is afraid that others to whom the stolen money has been traced, including his wife and son, may be arrested this week and more revelations on his criminal activities unearthed. Hence, his latest outburst which is designed to blackmail the police into silence.

The guilty are afraid. The cowards are afraid. Having murdered sleep, Mr. Fayose can sleep no more. Since he claims that he has committed no offense known to law, let Mr. Fayose be bold enough to clear his name by waiving his immunity as he had threatened to do earlier. Let him subject himself to investigation and see whether he will be able to walk on the street at the end of the investigation.
