Burial Of Slain Abuja Preacher Put On Hold, To Conduct Independent Autopsy

The burial of slain Abuja preacher Eunice Olawale, previously scheduled for tomorrow, July 14, was suspended indefinitely on Wednesday to enable the police conclude its investigations.

An Area Pastor of Mrs. Olawale’s Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Biola Egebeyemi, disclosed this to newsmen in the city.

He said the decision was taken by the family of the deceased with a view to allowing a thorough investigation on the immediate and remote cause(s) of her death by the police, who claimed to have arrested six suspects in connection with the murder.

Pastor Egbeyemi also announced that the postponement would also enable the family to carry out a post-mortem examination on the body of the deceased.

He stressed that any plan to sweep the murder under the carpet would not be allowed, and that justice must be seen to be done.

A new date for the burial of Mrs. Olawale, who was killed in the early hours of Saturday as she went out to preach the Gospel, as was her habit, is to be determined.

Prior to the announcement, residents of the Pipeline, Gbazango West Extension in Kubwa, the location of the crime, had expressed serious concern over what they described as the lukewarm manner in which the Federal Capital Territory Command of the Nigeria Police was handling the investigation of the brutal murder.

Their anger stemmed from various reports and complaints previously given to the police when residents suspected the movement of miscreants who are living inside the shanties constructed in front of an RCCG building.
