President Buhari Puts Obong Nsima Ekere Forward As MD Of NDDC

SaharaReporters has learned that the former Deputy Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Obong Nsima Ekere, has had his name put forward for confirmation by President Muhammadu Buhari as the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC).

Mr. Ekere, if confirmed by the Senate, will replace Ibim Semenitari who was the Acting Managing Director of the NDDC. Sources speaking to SaharaReporters disclosed that Mrs. Semenitari was never in the running to be made the MD/CEO of the NDDC.

Mr. Ekere is from Akwa Ibom State and has a degree from the University of Nigeria in Nsukka. He worked in the private sector doing estate evaluation and real estate development. In 2008, he was appointed as the Executive Chairman of the investment and industry promotion agency for the Akwa Ibom State government. In 2011 he was nominated to be the Deputy Governor alongside Godswill Akpabio but he later resigned when he risked getting impeached by politicians in the State.

SaharaReporters learned that Mr. Ekere's name has already been submitted by Ita Enang, the Senior Special Assistant on National Assembly Matters (Senate), earlier today.
