Eyitayo Jegede, the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice in Ondo State has resigned from his position.

Mr. Jegede handed in his resignation at the Alagbaka government office in Akure.

SaharaReporters learned that the handover note was dropped at the office of the Secretary to the Ondo State Government (SSG), Aderotimi Adeola.

Close aides to Mr. Jegede, the Akure born Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, said he decided to resign in order to pursue his ambition in the November 26 governorship election in the State.

"You know he (Jegede) has been speculating that he would resign for the purpose of his governorship ambition and he finally did that today.

"He is ready to pursue this ambition under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and we are fully ready to support him no matter the circumstances," one of the aides said.

Our correspondent learned that Mr. Jegede, an “anointed candidate” has been tipped by the embattled Governor Olusegun Mimiko for the governorship slot of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the November 26 election.

The choice of Jegede, a lawyer and Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) who is from the same Central Senatorial District with Mimiko sparked an internal crisis among the members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ondo State.

Political pundits in the State who have been speaking with SaharaReporters disclosed that Mr. Mimiko purposely picked Jegede, as a legal practitioner who could cover-up his financial misdeeds after leaving office in February 2007.

"Look at the treasury of Ondo State there is no money because this governor and his cohorts have looted it and kept it for their own personal rainy days which is the governorship election.

"They now decided to pick Jegede who is never a politician but the same central senatorial district with the outgoing governor Mimiko". One of them said.

It was gathered that more commissioners and political aides under the current government of the State are planning to tender their resignation letter with the ambition of contesting the November poll under the PDP.

The party has fixed August 22, 2016, for its primary with close to 10 aspirants jostling for its ticket.
