At least 10 persons have been killed in Kaduna State in new herdsmen attacks on three villages on Monday a source in the office of Nigeria’s Inspector General of Police in Abuja has confirmed to SaharaReporters.
The three villages, Ungwan Anjo, Akwaa and Gida Biyu are located in Jema’a Local Government Area.
It was also gathered that houses and other public structures were burnt down by the herdsmen who were said to have been ‘well-armed’.
The top police officer who confirmed the attacks said the situation has been contained as armed police and soldiers were deployed to the area.
A resident of the area who sent a distress message said but for the bravery of the villagers in repelling the attacks, the herdsmen would have killed scores before the arrival of security operatives.
As of the time of this report, neither the police nor the military nor the Kaduna State government had issued a formal statement regarding the attacks.
On Tuesday, the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reported that many women demonstrated naked in Ninte village in Godogodo Chiefdom of Jema’a Local Government area in protest against the nocturnal attacks of the herdsmen in their locality.
Taking their cries to the palace of the Chief of Godogodo, they demanded that the government take action to halt the increasing incidence of night killings, rape and arson, NAN said.
