Nigeria’s only hope for winning its first Olympic medal in Canoeing, Jonathan Akinyemi has failed to make a mark in slalom canoeing on Wednesday.
The British-born athlete is the first Nigerian to compete in the canoeing event of the Olympic Games, after his noteworthy performance at the 2015 African Canoe Slalom Championships in Sangana, Kenya.
He was the only African in the competition.
He recorded a time of 104.59 in his second run in the men’s kayak singles event, placing 20th in a field of 21.
Only the best 15 in the men’s kayak singles event advance to the semi-finals and final.
