Nigeria's Ese Brume Qualifies For Women's Long Jump Final

August 17, 2016

Nigeria’s Ese Brume is one step closer to winning the country’s first medal after she qualified for the final of the women’s Long Jump event at the 2016 Rio Olympics.

Brume did not jump the automatic qualification mark of 6.75m, but was able to qualify after she finished 3rd in Group B with her best distance of 6.67m during her second attempt. The 2016 African Championships gold medalist, will be making her second appearance in a major final outside the continent since she won at the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.

American long jumper, Brittney Reese who qualified with just her very first attempt of 6.78m will no doubt be the favorite to retain her Olympic title, but she will be wary of the threat of Ivana Spanovic who won Group A with 6.87m.

Meanwhile, Brume is expected to up the ante against top long jumpers in the event if she is to win medal in the final for Nigeria.
